The Trusty post top will work well with any size newel post.  It has an opening at the bottom to allow it to slide right down over the top of the existing post for easy installation.  The top piece of the post top is the size of the newel post.  The widest part of the post top will be a total of 2 inches wider than your newel post, centered with an inch around all sides.  The total height of the newel cap is 2 7/8″.
